The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) declared unjustified assets worth almost UAH 3.3 million belonging to the Head of the South-Eastern Interregional Department for the Execution of Criminal Sentences of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
Based on the results of lifestyle monitoring, the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), together with the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and on the basis of evidence collected by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), established that in 2023 the official’s daughter purchased a LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER VOQUE, manufactured in 2021. At the same time, the actual owner and user of the vehicle was the declarant himself — the Ministry of Justice official.
NACP analyzed the incomes and expenses of the official and his family and concluded that the acquisition of the said property could not have been made with lawful income.
The assets were recovered in favor of the state by court decision pursuant to Article 290 of the Civil Procedure Code of Ukraine.
This latest positive ruling of the Anti-Corruption Court demonstrates that the civil confiscation tool allows for a faster recovery of assets from an official compared to criminal proceedings.
As a reminder, the HACC previously declared unjustified assets worth over UAH 5.6 million belonging to the former head of one of the district councils in Rivne region.
