Developing integrity in schools and universities: NACP team visits Mykolaiv region

During a working trip to Mykolaiv, representatives of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) met with young people and educators from the region. An interactive event was held in the city's youth centre for teenagers and students on the benefits of good conduct in education and future careers, and educators were encouraged to become more actively involved in the NACP's Integrity Office initiatives aimed at integrating the topic of anti-corruption into the educational process.

"Most citizens are aware of the NACP's activities related to declarations. However, the NACP's task is not only to verify declarations, but also to implement a comprehensive policy of corruption prevention and integrity development. Our goal is to achieve such changes in society that there will be no place for corruption. This is related to the values that are formed by the family from childhood, but the environment, especially educational institutions, makes an equally important contribution," said NACP Head Viktor Pavlushchyk in his speech to educators.

About 200 heads of general education institutions in Mykolaiv and the region attended the presentation of the all-Ukrainian project ‘Transparent School.’ This project aims to transform the educational environment and foster a culture of integrity among both students and teachers.

‘School is more than just a curriculum. It is a space where life principles, trust and responsibility are formed. Therefore, integrity should not be a separate topic, but a style of daily interaction,’ said Alyona Khylko, head of the educational work department at the NACP Integrity Office.

She said that educators involved in the Transparent School project have access to specially designed teaching materials, informal training and participate in training sessions and webinars. Teachers are united in a community of ethical teachers and involve their institutions in the network of transparent schools in Ukraine.

The Integrity Office is also implementing the Transparent Professional Education and Transparent Universities projects. NACP experts are currently finalising the development of anti-corruption materials for managers, teachers and students of vocational and technical education, and are already looking for institutions that are ready to implement the relevant recommendations. As part of the Transparent Universities project, universities are being helped to develop transparency and accountability policies and students are taking a course on anti-corruption and integrity. In the Mykolaiv region, only one institution has joined this project so far - the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding.

As a reminder, in the second quarter of 2025, 107 schools joined the Transparent School project. In total, the community now includes 1,156 schools from different regions of the country, 19 of which have become Integrity Hubs that will help new schools create a transparent educational environment. Any school can join the Transparent School project by registering at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf0dR6ROC
