All cases concerning providing inaccurate information in declarations for 2015–2019 will be closed in view of the Decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine No. 13-r/2020. Thus, these cases can never be considered again and their participants are completely released from liability.
This was stated by Oleksandr Novikov, Head of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), on a special broadcast of Channel 24, dedicated to International Anti-Corruption Day.
“A total of 4,700 cases were registered by law enforcement agencies, and it’s not just by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, it’s primarily by the National Police. More than 1,200 cases were handed over to court. 200 sentences were passed. These sentences can be reviewed if individuals go to court and can be closed. This really amounts to UAH hundreds of millions,” said NACP Head.
He also stressed that it is now important for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to adopt the Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2020-2024 in the second reading as soon as possible. This will help create additional anti-corruption joint mechanisms for all the authorities.
“There is an Anti-Corruption Strategy – a draft [law] that passed the first reading in Parliament. It is now being prepared for the second reading, and it contains specific mechanisms – that are currently lacking for the NACP, NABU, SAPO or any other agency in the country to work effectively, for each agency to be anti-corruption,” Oleksandr Novikov added.
