Civil forfeiture: more than UAH 8.5 million may be confiscated from customs officers' spouses and their son, a district council official

07.03.2025

Prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), following the results of lifestyle monitoring by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), filed two lawsuits with the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) regarding unjustified assets of more than UAH 8.5 million of customs officers and their son, a district council official.

The NACP found that in 2021, the spouses - the head of the department and the chief state inspector of the Odesa Customs - acquired an apartment in Odesa with an area of 103.8 sq. m. Their son, who is the deputy chairman of the district council in Kyiv region, purchased an apartment in the capital with an area of 105.5 sq. m. and a 2018 Toyota RAV-4 HYBRID car. At the same time, the ownership of these assets was registered by officials in the name of their close relative.

The analysis of the family's legal income and savings shows that the officials and their close relatives could not have purchased the assets at the expense of their legal income. After the monitoring of the lifestyle of the mentioned subjects began, they immediately sold this movable and immovable property.

The assets may be recovered in favor of the state by a decision of the HACC in accordance with Article 290 of the Civil Code of Ukraine.
