Based on the materials of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) filed a lawsuit with the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) to declare unjustified and confiscate the assets of the head of a department of the Main Division of the National Police in Kyiv.
During the monitoring of the officer's lifestyle, which was launched after the publication by Ukrayinska Pravda, the National Agency found signs that he had acquired unjustified assets worth more than UAH 3.3 million.
Thus, in early 2021, his daughter purchased a three-room apartment in Kyiv, which she gave to her mother a year and a half later, valuing it at UAH 15 thousand. This is the value of the apartment that the police officer indicated in his declaration for 2022.
In addition, the official's wife in the same year also became the owner of a 2016 VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG, the cost of which, according to the declaration and the Unified State Register of Vehicles, was only UAH 3 thousand.
The NACP found out that the official, who has been working in law enforcement for more than 30 years, as well as his wife and daughter, did not have the legal income to purchase the assets.
Given the findings, the SAPO filed a lawsuit to recognize the assets as unjustified and to recover them for the state (civil forfeiture).
It should be noted that at the request of the SAPO prosecutor, the apartment and car of the police officer were seized.
A note of caution. Following part one of Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
As a reminder, the NACP also filed a lawsuit with the HACC to declare unjustified and confiscate the assets of more than UAH 1.9 million of the Deputy Head of the Poltava Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support.
