Strengthening anti-corruption initiatives and cooperation with Japan: NACP Head meets with Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine

Ukraine is grateful to Japan for its steady support, in particular through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which plays an important role in the development of anti-corruption mechanisms in our country. This was stated by the Head of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), Viktor Pavlushchyk, during a meeting with the Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, Matsuda Kuniori.

The officials discussed the results of the NACP work despite the full-scale war and the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in the suspension of some of the Agency's functions, such as submission and verification of declarations and reports of political parties, for a long period of time.

“An important part of the NACP activities is strategic analysis of corruption risks in key sectors, such as reconstruction, corporate governance in state-owned enterprises, land relations, healthcare, public procurement, forestry management, border crossing during martial law, etc. We would be grateful for assistance in this work, in particular in the form of technical expertise and participation in institutional capacity building programs,” said the NACP Head.

Ambassador Matsuda Kuniori expressed his support for the National Agency's team, recognizing the dual challenges Ukraine is currently facing. He also noted that the meeting was another step in strengthening the partnership between Ukraine and Japan, especially in the context of joint efforts to fight corruption. Given the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union and its intention to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), cooperation with Japan, in particular through JICA initiatives, is becoming even more important.
