
Oleksandr Novikov, head of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), took part in the conference "Cooperation with the OECD and new horizons for Ukraine anti-corruption agenda", dedicated to the issues of Ukraine's movement towards membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the advantages and challenges for legislative and law enforcement spheres from cooperation.
"The process of joining Ukraine to the OECD is important not only for overcoming corruption but also for ensuring peace in the world. After all, as the President of the United States aptly said when creating the KleptoCapture Task Force, that corruption is a process feeding autocracies that undermining democracies. It is also important for Ukraine in the context of post-war recovery with the involvement of funds from international partners," — Oleksandr Novikov said.
According to the Head of NACP, political will is a necessary condition for the implementation of anti-corruption mechanisms in international business transactions.
"The recovery process is closely tied to the integration of Ukraine to the OECD and the EU, the implementation of the norms of the Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Officials in International Business Transactions, as well as the implementation of the Anti-Corruption Strategy. For this, it is necessary to ensure appropriate legislative changes," — Oleksandr Novikov stressed.
He also emphasized the importance of concrete practical steps, such as the effective investigation of criminal proceedings, as well as the preparation of the necessary documents for joining the OECD.
NACP plays an active role in the process of Ukraine's integration into the OECD and the Working Group on Bribery. Support for joining the OECD Working Group on Bribery is one of the international priorities.
