Civil forfeiture: Based on NACP materials, the High Anti-Corruption Court has confiscated over UAH 8.5 million from a couple of customs officers and their son, a district council official, in favour of the state.

24.06.2025

The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) upheld the claim of the prosecutor of the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) based on materials from the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) and recognised as unjustified assets worth UAH 8.5 million belonging to a married couple who are customs officials and their son, a district council official.

Based on the results of lifestyle monitoring, NACP established that in 2021, the couple – a department head and chief state inspector of the Odesa Customs – acquired ownership of a 103.8 sq. m apartment in Odesa. Their son, who holds the position of deputy head of the district council in the Kyiv region, purchased an apartment in the capital with an area of 105.5 square metres and a 2018 Toyota RAV-4 Hybrid car. The officials registered ownership of these assets to a close relative born in 1937. At the same time, after the monitoring of their lifestyle began, the officials urgently sold the property.

Authorised persons from the NACP analysed the income and expenses of the customs officers and the deputy head of the district council and concluded that the assets in question could not have been acquired through legal income.

The assets will be confiscated in accordance with Article 290 of the Civil Code of Ukraine. The court's decision may be appealed within 30 days of the date of its full text.
