Finding assets hidden abroad will become easier: NACP joins Europol's SIENA network platform

11.09.2024

The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has gained access to Europol's SIENA platform. This opens up new opportunities for information exchange with law enforcement agencies of EU member states, as well as increases the effectiveness of preventing and combating corruption.

The platform allows using a secure channel for prompt data exchange between the NACP and European partners, which will significantly improve the quality of international investigations and the identification of assets hidden abroad.

In addition, access to international databases and tools of the SIENA platform will allow the National Agency to quickly track financial flows and identify suspicious assets. This will facilitate the disclosure of complex corruption schemes both inside and outside the country.

Joining Europol's network platform is another example of effective international cooperation aimed at increasing public trust in anti-corruption agencies in general and NACP initiatives in particular. Expanding cooperation with Europol and access to its network platforms demonstrates that the NACP's activities comply with European standards of transparency and efficiency.

In June, the NACP and the Basel Institute on Governance (Switzerland) signed a memorandum of cooperation that envisages strengthening the prevention of corruption, in particular, through the use of new digital tools and training of NACP employees involved in lifestyle monitoring and inspections of the acquisition of unjustified assets, as well as corruption risk analysis. The document agreed upon by the parties also provides for cooperation in the area of tracing and returning assets illegally transferred from Ukraine.
