The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has revealed signs of illicit enrichment of one of the heads of the territorial service center of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. The monitoring of the official's lifestyle was initiated based on the results of self-revealed circumstances.
The audit found that in the period from 2021 to 2023, the official purchased a number of vehicles at reduced prices and sold them at much higher prices, receiving significant financial gain. The scheme also involved the declarant's relatives.
In cooperation with the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA), it was found that during Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in March 2022, the official purchased five apartments in the resort cities of Batumi and Bakuriani in Georgia. The total area of the properties ranges from 37 to 87 square meters, and their cost is from 30 to 82 thousand US dollars. The total value of these acquisitions exceeds UAH 7.19 million.
In total, the expenses of the official and his family for the purchase of movable and immovable property amount to almost UAH 20 million. At the same time, NACP found that there was no legal income that could cover such financial expenses.
The materials regarding the head of the MIA service center were sent to the Prosecutor General's Office for further registration in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illicit enrichment).
