The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) has recognized as unjustified the assets of a former head of one of the district councils in Rivne region worth over UAH 5.6 million.
The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), together with the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), established that the official had acquired five land plots in the Kyiv region without having lawful income or savings to cover their value.
In June, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) filed a lawsuit with the HACC seeking recognition of the former district council head’s assets as unjustified.
By court ruling, the assets were recovered in favor of the state in accordance with Article 290 of the Civil Procedure Code of Ukraine.
This is another example of a positive HACC decision in response to a SAPO claim, demonstrating that the civil forfeiture mechanism allows for the prompt recovery of an official’s property compared to the lengthier criminal process.
