Lifestyle monitoring: over UAH 7 million may be recovered from a police officer – head of the anti-corruption unit

28.08.2025

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), based on materials received from the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) and the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), has filed a claim with the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) to declare unjustified assets worth more than UAH 7 million belonging to the head of the Fifth Division (combating organized groups with signs of corruption) of the Strategic Investigations Department in Kyiv, National Police of Ukraine.

Lifestyle monitoring revealed that during 2021–2023, the official and his close associates, acting on his behalf, acquired:

  • a Volkswagen Touareg (2022), worth over UAH 2.9 million;
  • a Volkswagen Passat (2021), worth UAH 1.35 million;
  • a BMW 330i (2022), worth UAH 1.75 million.

In addition, in 2021, the police officer spent more than UAH 500,000 to form a cash asset of USD 27,000, despite lacking the financial capacity to do so.

The NACP also established that in 2023, over UAH 700,000 was transferred to the accounts of the declarant and his wife, the origin of which remains unexplained.

The official explained that the funds used to acquire the above-mentioned assets were loans and gifts from close relatives.

Authorized NACP officers analyzed the incomes and expenditures of the official and his close associates, concluding that the assets could not have been acquired with lawful funds.

According to Article 290 of the Civil Procedure Code of Ukraine, the assets may be recovered in favor of the state by a decision of the High Anti-Corruption Court.
