National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) and JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" have signed a memorandum of cooperation in building integrity and preventing corruption in the railway industry.
This includes joint information and awareness raising activities aimed at raising awareness of Ukrzaliznytsia employees in the field of corruption prevention, as well as the implementation and development of integrity principles in the railway industry, taking into account the best Ukrainian and foreign practices.
NACP Head Viktor Pavlushchyk noted that the railroad industry has become particularly important for Ukraine's defense and national security in the context of full-scale aggression, and therefore more efforts should be made to prevent corrupt practices.
"Ukrzaliznytsia is of strategic importance for the economy and security of the state. In 2023, NACP investigated corruption risks in the activities of Ukrzaliznytsia, where it identified a number of corruption-related factors that could negatively affect the efficiency of its operations. NACP emphasizes that all state-owned companies with this status should work to eliminate corruption factors in their operations as a matter of priority. Today, the cooperation of such powerful companies with anti-corruption agencies is a sign of conscious thinking in the interests of the state, proof that we are working together to win," said Pavlushchyk.
"Building effective interaction and cooperation between Ukrzaliznytsia and NACP is another consistent step towards systematic and transparent processes and procedures within the company. As the railroad community is one of the largest in Ukraine, such positive changes in the railroad industry will have a nationwide effect. This is exactly what it is worth combining our experience and efforts for," emphasized Yevhen Liashchenko, CEO of Ukrzaliznytsia.
The head of the state-owned company also said that in early 2024, an anti-corruption office was launched at Ukrzaliznytsia, and in April 2024, a new Anti-Corruption Program of the company was approved.
As a reminder, in 2023, NACP investigated corruption risks in the activities of Ukrzaliznytsia and gave specific recommendations for minimizing them - "TOP 20 Corruption Risks in the Activities of Ukrzaliznytsia".
