Unjustified asset worth more than UAH 2.4 million: according to NACP materials, an apartment may be confiscated from the family of high-ranking National Police officials

19.09.2024

Based on materials from the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), and additional evidence collected by prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), a lawsuit was filed with the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) to declare an asset worth more than UAH 2.4 million, owned by the family of high-ranking officials in the National Police of Ukraine (NPU), unjustified and to confiscate it.

During lifestyle monitoring of the deputy head of one of the NPU departments and his wife, the head of another department in the NPU, the NACP found that a close family member had given the family over UAH 2.4 million in cash, which was used to purchase an apartment in the capital on the same day. Earlier, the police officer's mother had allegedly "borrowed" the money from a third party.

An analysis of the income and expenses of the officials' family and their relatives revealed that purchasing the apartment with legitimate income was not possible.

On September 19, 2024, a SAPO prosecutor filed a lawsuit to confiscate the apartment for the state. Upon the prosecutor's request for interim relief, the HACC seized the property.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict.

Earlier, the HACC upheld a claim filed by SAPO based on NACP materials and confiscated assets worth UAH 8.6 million from a customs clearance officer at the Pivdennyi customs post of Kyiv Customs, under the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
