Russia continues to use sports as a tool of information warfare, propaganda, and disguising the redistribution of financial flows among its state institutions and sanctioned organizations. The new project of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) "War & Sport" on the portal "War & Sanctions" will help to counteract this disgusting phenomenon.
The new section contains a list of athletes, sports federations, associations, clubs, sponsors, and other sports organizations from different countries that directly or indirectly support Russia. They can do this by inviting Russians to sports competitions, buying or sponsoring Russian sports teams, receiving funding from Russians, or directly declaring support for the aggressor.
For example, the Russian VTB Bank and the Russian government sponsor almost all Olympic federations in various sports. Thus, Russia is allowed to be integrated into global sports processes by "bribing" others.
Such an open database will help to destroy the myth of "sport outside of war or politics" by demonstrating specific examples of actions in favor of a terrorist state. The section will also show which person or organization is financially or reputationally assisting Russia and cooperating with the Russians under sanctions.
This information will be useful for both Ukrainian sports representatives and representatives of the countries of the sanctions coalition, international competent authorities, and international sports organizations to apply sanctions to such sports entities.
The War and Sport project is implemented by the NACP in cooperation with Ukrainian and international sports federations and organizations, experts and lawyers in international sports law, and human rights institutions.
