Transparent School project unites more than 560 schools in Ukraine

25.07.2024

The Integrity Office of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has been implementing the Transparent School project since 2022.

Its goal is to launch the transformation of the educational environment by introducing educational materials and increasing the integrity and transparency of the school as an institution.

As part of the project, 15 Integrity Centers have been established in Ukraine in 12 regions, which engage friendly educational institutions and unite them to work together.

The history of integrity centers began in Vinnytsia. The first center in Ukraine started working offline at Vinnytsia Gymnasium №24 and brought together 32 friendly schools.

Since then, 560 schools have joined the project community.  Most of them are from Lviv (105), Dnipro (80), Vinnytsia (76), and Rivne (67) regions.

Community Schools are partners of NACP Integrity Office in disseminating anti-corruption and integrity education in schools.  They are agents of transformation in the Community of Integrity Teaching, where educators get access to teaching materials on anti-corruption and integrity, non-formal education, and participate in trainings and webinars. In addition, they share their experience in using content to foster zero tolerance to corruption among students.

13 managers of Integrity Centers have been trained by NACP Integrity Office. These are school principals, deputy principals and teachers from Vinnytsia, Rivne, Volyn, Lviv, Kyiv, Poltava, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kropyvnytskyi and Zakarpattia regions.

“In the Transparent School project, we work both with teachers to provide them with the most up-to-date methodological developments for working with students on integrity and anti-corruption, and with school leaders to comprehensively transform educational institutions on the basis of integrity, transparency and openness. These changes are important for students, parents and educators,” said Iryna Chahovets, Head of  Integrity Office of NACP.

Teachers of the community hold thematic hours of communication, integrity lessons for students of grades 3-4, and a special anti-corruption course for ninth graders, as well as a selection of anti-corruption games that are used in extracurricular activities.
