According to sociological surveys, 73% of Ukrainian citizens consider corruption to be the biggest problem in our country. But the real number of Ukrainians who face corruption is 19%. These figures demonstrate the thirst of Ukrainian society to live in a country without corruption.
What should we all do together to minimize its level? This was stated by NACP Head Viktor Pavlushchyk during the Re: Open Zakarpattia forum, which started on November 8, 2024.
According to the Head of NACP, this is a comprehensive work of all state institutions to reform areas to eliminate corruption risks, digitalize processes to eliminate the human factor, build a virtuous society and adapt legislation to EU standards. In addition, it is extremely important to engage representatives of proactive civil society and journalists.
"Corruption starts with each and every one of us: both those who take and those who look for ways to solve their problems quickly. Corruption is a legacy that our society has received, but it is not our inheritance. And we must do everything we can to avoid passing this legacy on to our children and future generations. Systemic and strategic changes, in particular through the implementation of the Anti-Corruption Strategy and the State Anti-Corruption Program, will help us do this,” said Viktor Pavlushchyk.
According to him, cooperation with international partners, in particular with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which brings together 38 of the world's most developed countries, is important. Thanks to this, we get access to the best international practices and tools for building a system of good public governance. Ukraine became the first non-OECD country to join the Public Integrity Indicators initiative.
"We must clearly realize that the fight against corruption is not limited to punishment. The real result is possible only through systematic work, which includes both effective mechanisms for preventing corruption and the development of good practices at all levels of the public sector. It is important not only to respond to violations, but also to create conditions where integrity becomes an obvious and natural choice for every employee,” said the NACP Head.
He reminded that NACP continues to work actively in terms of participation in the negotiation procedure between Ukraine and the EU by implementing the Anti-Corruption Mainstream, which is a requirement of the European Commission and consists in the presence of a block of prevention and fight against corruption in each section of the negotiation procedure.
