The first training marathon for anti-corruption authorized: NACP summarizes the results

14.10.2024

More than 150 participants from the public service and private sector successfully completed the first marathon of practical skills of the Anti-Corruption Commissioner “Corruption Risk Management”. These are representatives of government agencies, local governments, state and municipal enterprises, and higher education institutions from all over Ukraine. The marathon lasted from September 13 to October 10.

On October 10, the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) hosted the final event based on the marathon results. Participants discussed the results of the training with experts, the strategic and executive dimension of risk management in the public sector, how and why to manage corruption risks, etc.

"This initiative was launched in response to a request from the anti-corruption commissioners. After all, only theoretical knowledge without the possibility of practical application cannot provide the value we strive for when working to prevent corruption. The idea of the project is less theory and more practice. The marathon was conceived as a platform where anti-corruption commissioners will not only gain knowledge, but will also improve their skills by performing real tasks,” said Deputy Head of the NACP Serhii Hupiak.

According to him, the skills of identifying and managing corruption risks should be part of the competencies of not only anti-corruption commissioners. This is also important for executives and middle managers who need to understand where risks may arise and how to prevent them in a timely manner. After all, effective anti-corruption begins with the ability to see potential threats in any management process.

During the marathon, the participants took a test drive to identify corruption risks and determine measures to influence them, received feedback from leading industry experts, and learned how to create a register of corruption risks on their own.

Mustafa-Massi Nayem, Senior Advisor on Anti-Corruption and Infrastructure Rebuilding at Promoting Integrity in the Public Sector, spoke about the strategic and executive dimension of risk management in the public sector. He emphasized that it is very important for employees to clearly articulate their position on integrity issues, look for people with values and defend them.

Oleg Lagodienko, Director and co-founder of Ethicontrol, shared tips and tools on how and why to manage corruption risks with the participants.

At the end of the event, Deputy Head of the NACP Mykola Korneliuk presented the participants with certificates of completion.

The marathon was implemented with the support of the U-LEAD with Europe Program and RMTeam Ukraine, an implementing partner of the House of Integrity project.
