Ukraine’s Corruption Prevention Agency calls on international partners to impose sanctions on those involved in jailing Russian councilor for seven years after criticizing the war in Ukraine

Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) proposes to impose international sanctions on the judge, prosecutor, and investigator involved in the criminal case against the member of the Council of the Krasnosilskyi Municipal District of Moscow Alexei  Gorinov.

Today, Alexei  Gorinov was found guilty of spreading "fakes" about the Russian army and sentenced to 7 years in a general regime colony.

This is the first case in Russia when a person received a real term in the case on military fakes" under harsh laws introduced since the full-scale Russian invasion.

Alexei  Gorinov was sentenced to seven years in prison for suggesting to cancel a competition for children's drawings during the war because children are dying every day in Ukraine at this time. During his speech, the deputy used the term "war" and not "special military operation".

The persons involved in this case were included in the list of candidates for international sanctions, namely:

  • judge Alesya Mendeleeva, who sentenced Gorinov to imprisonment, finding him guilty of spreading "fakes". While reading the verdict, the judge reminded that Gorinov was accused of talking about the death of children in Ukraine. According to the judge, this "does not correspond to the official briefings of the Ministry of Defense of Russia";
  • investigator Konstantin Miagkov, who started and biasedly conducted the pre-trial investigation in the case;
  • prosecutor Svetlana Zhuravlyova, who directed the court to issue a guilty verdict with severe punishment.

The NACP sent these proposals to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.

A complete list and profiles of persons proposed to be sanctioned can be viewed on the "War&Sanctions" website developed by the NACP.
