Gavary Group, a sanctioned target of the NACP, continues to operate in Latvia
The Russian company Gavary Group, which works for the Russian defense sector and is one of the TOP-10 suppliers of polymer products in the Russian Federation, continues to work successfully on the EU market, in particular in Latvia. Journalists of the Latvian media Latvijas Radio told about this in their recent story. The Gavary Group company produces a wide range of polymer products and supplies them to a number of customers in Russia. Before the start of the full-scale invasion, the company's client list included Russian Railways and the Moscow Metro. After February 24, 2022, the company works for the Russian defense sector: in particular, it supplies its products to the sanctioned Kalashnikov arms concern and soldiers of the Russian army. In Latvia, Gavary Group owns a front company Softteh LLC, which is the main hub of the Russian holding in Europe. On May 18, 2023, the Head of the direction of minimization of corruption risks in the sanctions policy of the NACP, Agiya Zagrebelska, commented on the work of the state body on the Gavary Group case on Latvian radio. She said it is extremely important to highlight cases like the Gavary Group and exclude these companies from supplying the occupying army, and sanctions are an effective tool to achieve this goal. "Every company like Gavary, which supplies its products to the Russian military complex, prolongs the war. It makes it more expensive not only for the Ukrainian people in terms of (increasing) casualties among the population, economic and environmental damage, but also for European taxpayers, because the supply of finished products or raw materials to the Russian military requires retaliatory actions, i.e. more weapons, more defense equipment (for Ukraine)”, - says the representative of the NACP. At the time of recording the above-mentioned plot, Gavary Group was still on the list of sanctions targets of the NACP (the state body first reported this on March 16, 2023). However, as of May 23, 2023, the Russian holding Gavary Group is under Ukrainian sanctions: 14 subsidiaries of the holding and its managers were included in the sanctions package put into effect by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi on May 12, 2023. Currently, NACP is actively communicating with the Latvian government regarding the reaction of the relevant authorities to the activities of the Latvian subsidiary Gavary Group. We would like to remind that the role of NACP in the sanctions policy is defined in the Road Map of Individual Sanctions developed by the Stanford International Working Group on Russian Sanctions.
