NACP starts cooperation with new American-British anti-corruption project Pro-Integrity

21.03.2024

The team of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), headed by its newly elected Head Viktor Pavlushchyk, met with representatives of the USAID Mission to Ukraine, the British Embassy in Ukraine, and the new project Promoting Integrity in the Public Sector/Pro-Integrity.

The meeting was attended by USAID Mission Director to Ukraine James Hope, Director of Development at the British Embassy in Ukraine Stefan Kossoff, USAID Ukraine Justice and Anti-Corruption Team Leader Jay Totte, Program Manager of the Good Governance Fund at the British Embassy in Ukraine Iryna Lad, Pro-Integrity Project Director Peter Dimitroff and his deputy Yulia Yesmukhanova.

During the meeting, the NACP Head shared his vision of the National Agency's activities, principles and priorities. These are, first and foremost, effective coordination of the implementation of the State Anti-Corruption Program, optimization of the process of declaring and verifying declarations and reports of political parties, and simplification of explanations on anti-corruption issues for public officials. The tasks also include the implementation of the Communication Strategy for Preventing and Combating Corruption until 2025 with nationwide information and awareness campaigns and the creation of the Transparency Register based on the adopted Law on Lobbying. In its work, the NACP will strictly comply with the Ukrainian legislation on corruption prevention, the principles of independence of the National Agency, and will preserve and strengthen the existing areas of work.

"The NACP team has made significant progress in preventing and combating corruption, but the work needs to continue. I clearly understand what further actions the National Agency should take and I am grateful to our partners for their support in achieving our goals," said Mr. Pavlushchyk.

"Fighting corruption is a priority topic in our activities. That is why it is important for us to build strong cooperation in order to raise the NACP's activities to a higher level," said James Hope.

Pro-Integrity Project Director Peter Dimitroff expressed his readiness to support the NACP team, which is facing serious and complex challenges.

"We know that anti-corruption reform is very important. We see Ukraine's progress in this area, but it should not stop. That is why we are ready to support you on your way to fighting and counteracting corruption," said Stefan Kossoff.

For reference.

The Promoting Integrity in the Public Sector (Pro-Integrity) project is a 5-year program launched in 2024 in Ukraine, jointly funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (UK FCDO) and implemented by DAI Global (DAI).

Pro-Integrity will concentrate on addressing three development challenges and mitigate corruption risks at the national institutional level, local government level, and related to Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction:

-   strengthening anti-corruption institutional capacity at the national level to address corruption, prevent, detect and deter it.

-   strengthening anti-corruption compliance and oversight in local governance.

-   increase transparency and accountability in the area of resilience, recovery and reconstruction.
