NATO supports projects launched by the NACP to build integrity in the defense and security sector

26.09.2024

NATO supports the projects launched by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) to build integrity in the security and defense sector. This was stated by Nadja Milanova, Acting Team Lead of the NATO Building Integrity Team (NATO Headquarters, Brussels), during a bilateral meeting between the NATO Representation to Ukraine and the National Agency.

In particular, it concerns the implementation of the recommendations of the Strategic Review of Ukraine's Defense Procurement System, the Roadmap for Ukraine-NATO Interoperability, and the study of corruption risks in centralized logistics procurement for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition, the status of the implementation of NATO recommendations on building integrity provided in the Report on the results of the expert analysis in Ukraine - 2019 (Self-assessment of the Building Integrity Program) was highly appreciated.

It should be noted that during this week, the NATO Representation to Ukraine, together with the NACP, organized and held bilateral meetings of Dr. Nadja Milanova with the bodies and institutions that make up the security and defense sector, representatives of the Parliament of Ukraine, civil society and international organizations.

During these meetings, the Ukrainian participants presented their achievements in building integrity in public authorities, for which they received positive feedback from NATO Headquarters, as well as proposals for further work in building integrity.

During the dialogue with civil society and international organizations, the issue of civil society involvement in building integrity in the security and defense sector was discussed.

“The designation of the NACP as the National Coordinator for NATO-Ukraine Cooperation in Building Integrity contributed to the increase in the level of efficiency of interaction between the security and defense sector agencies on building integrity,” said Dr. Nadja Milanova.

In his part, Iaroslav Liubchenko, Head of the NACP's Security and Defense Integrity Policy Development Department, emphasized the importance of clear planning and identification of priority projects, which will allow for achieving the goals and interoperability with NATO in the field of integrity building. According to him, our country's membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is our strategic and primary goal.

As a reminder, Dr. Nadja Milanova, Team Leader of the Building Integrity Team (NATO Headquarters, Brussels), paid an official visit to Ukraine. The purpose of her visit was to discuss areas of cooperation in building integrity and preventing corruption within the security and defense sector.

In July 2024, the NACP hosted a founding meeting to launch the process of assessing the implementation of NATO recommendations provided in the NATO Building Integrity Program Self-Assessment Report.
